MARILYN MONROE PONCHO
A black wool poncho with a decorative red velvet neckline and a fringed hem; likely purchased by or given to MM on one of her last trips to Mexico when she was buying indigenous crafts for her Brentwood, California home.
This piece is one of four that was originally sold in the October 27-28, 1999 Christie's (New York) auction titled "The Personal Property of Marilyn Monroe;" Sale 9216, Lot 146, Page 117 of that catalogue; final price realized was $6,900.
