Post Lot Text
Autograph scientific manuscript of the greatest historical importance. Its nine pages of neatly corrected text were reworked and incorporated in Maupertuis' famous 1746 Berlin paper, Les lois du mouvement et du repos, in which the author set forth the principle of least action, generally regarded as his most significant scientific contribution. The principle was later clarified by Euler, developed by Lagrange, and incorporated in modern times into quantum mechanics. Immaculately preserved.
