MAWE, JOHN. TRAVELS IN THE INTERIOR OF BRAZIL,
PARTICULARLY IN THE GOLD AND DIAMOND DISTRICTS OF THAT COUNTRY BY AUTHORITY OF THE PRINCE REGENT OF PORTUGAL, INCLUDING A VOYAGE TO THE RIO DE LA PLATA AND AN HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE REVOLUTION OF BUENOS AYRES
London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1812. 366pp.
This book was the first in English to tell of Brazil's gemmological wealth. The frontispiece plate has become a historically important visual documenting diamond washing. This edition is beautifully bound and in very good condition. A similar copy of this book was auctioned in the first sale of this collection on April 15, 1996 and sold for $1600.
