Large folio, 575 x 414 mm., contemporary half roan, original front and rear printed wrappers for fascicles 1, 2 and 4 preserved at end, rebacked using original spine, corners bumped, lower outer corners of a few text leaves and plates bruised, occasional very slight discoloration.
FIRST EDITION. 24 lithographed plates, 23 of them colored (no. 11 uncolored), after Ferdinand Lucas Bauer, Brunner, Buchberger, Funk, Sandler, Satory and Stoll by Erminy, Knapp, Kold and Satory, 12 of them relating to botanical subjects.
A rare account of Brazilian flowers and animals by one of the team of Austrian explorers in Brazil which included Martius, Natterer, Pohl and Spix.
