2° (328 x 221mm). Engraved title by R. Elstracke, 9 engravings of court dress of the nobility, many woodcut coats-of-arms, woodcut part-title borders and initials. Printed correction slips on 4 leaves (3K2, 3P3, 4P2, 5K4, 5N3), p.493/4 with excised section as usual, removing reference to Charles Blount's natural progeny. (Small tear in title, quire F [6 leaves] supplied from another, slightly shorter, copy, p.495 tipped in and possibly supplied, a few sheets lightly browned.) Contemporary calf, gilt medallion on sides, ornament in spine compartments (rear board mostly detached, a little worn); modern leather chemise and slipcase. Provenance: annotations correcting and supplementing the text written c.1644 -- Henry Rainforde (near-contemporary signature on Address to the Reader) -- Thomas Walcot (flyleaf inscription) -- William Jaggard (early 20th-century bookplate) -- purchased from Guntrip, Maidstone, 27 February 1959, £6 10s.
FIRST EDITION. The early owner of this copy, Henry Rainford, may be Sir Henry Rainford, whose daughter Anne was the muse of Michael Drayton. It has been annotated with corrections and additions to several genealogies, written c.1644. STC 17926.
