2° (418 x 275mm). Printed in red and black. Engraved title, 3 full-page engravings by Castellus after G.-B. Galestruzzi, engraved architectural border to 3 leaves, printed cancellation slip on N4v. (Some light spotting and browning, small repaired marginal holes in first two leaves, one repaired tear into text.) Contemporary Italian red-brown morocco gilt, elaborately tooled with central arms of Cardinal Carafa, fan ornaments, fantastical animals at corners of inner panel, central border of rosettes in circles, gilt edges (short split and tear at head of spine, slight wear at corners). Provenance: Cardinal Carafa of Naples.
A tool similar to that used here to form the outer border appears on another Roman binding, lot 277.
