Nous remercions Monsieur Fred G. Meijer, du RKD, d'avoir proposé cette attribution sur la base de photographies. Le tableau comportait certainement à l'origine un monogramme 'J.H.V.', qui, selon Monsieur Fred Meijer, aurait été transformé ultérieurement en 'J.v.d.H'.

On connaît une douzaine d'oeuvres du monogrammiste J.H.V., artiste encore non identifié (cf. F. Meijer et A. van der Willingen, A dictionnary of Dutch and Flemish still life painters working in oils 1525-1725, Leiden, 2003, p. 226).
