PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF LENA M. AND IRWIN J. PINCUS, M.D.
MORGAGNI, Giovanni Battista (1682-1771). Adversaria anatomica omnia. Padua: Josephus Cominus, 1717-19.
6 parts in two volumes, 4o (262 x 199 mm). 1 leaf publisher's advertisement at end of vol. II. 11 engraved plates. (Some light browning and spotting, few marginal stains in vol. II.) Contemporary limp vellum (a bit soiled).
Third edition of part one, FIRST EDITIONS of parts 2-6. Morgagni was the founder of pathological anatomy, and through his post mortem examinations advanced the procedure of basic diagnosis, prognosis and treatment on the knowledge of the anatomical conditions of common diseases. This is one of his earliest works. The first part was originally published in 1706 in Bologna. Parts 2 and 3 are presumably reissues of the first edition sheets, forming a collected edition with part 1. The final three parts appeared in 1719 and apparently were never issued separately. See Osler 1182; Waller 6669 (1719 collected editions). NLM/Blake, p.312.
