First edition in unusually good condition of one of the earliest first-hand accounts of many South Sea islands by a sea captain with a reputation for "drawing on his imagination at times" and who was engaged in the fur trade during the course of his career. His exciting adventures in the South Seas were extensively paraphrased by Edgar Allan Poe for his "Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym." Hill, p. 204.
