Born in Caenarvonshire, Griffith spent his entire career working for the antiquarian Thomas Pennant (1726-1798) and his son David. Most of Griffith's artistic output is connected with Pennant, who had 'acquired that treasure' in Spring 1769 and who took him as draughtsman on his subsequent journeys as 'a worthy servant whom I keep for that purpose'. The inscription on the drawing refers to the Rev. Dr. Treadway Russell Nash (1725 - 1811), a local historian known for his Collections for the History of Worcestershire.

Bevere is a hamlet two and a half miles from Worcester. This watercolour was executed on Griffith's 1776 tour with his patron.
