This drawing, probably executed as an independent finished work, was reused by Lepicie in a painting sold at Sotheby's, London, 16 July 1980, part of lot 25, depicting a peasant seated next to a still life with a barrel. The painting was sold as a pair with another depicting an old peasant woman chopping vegetables.
A later version of the drawing is in the Städelschen Kunstinstitut, Frankfurt (M. Stuffmann, Französische Zeichnungen im Städelschen Kunstinstitut, exhib. cat., Frankfurt, 1986, no. 112.).
