4 items in 3 volumes, 8o. Blue-half morocco by Pock fils (front-cover detached), and near contemporary half-vellum. Provenance: William M. Ivins, creator from 1916 onwards, of the Department of Prints and Drawings in the Metropolitan Museum (inscription on fly leaf of Mélanges).
PARTLY PRICED. Charles Nodier, author, collector and librarian of the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal, build and sold book collections throughout his life. The 1827 sale, of which this is, according to an autograph note by the collector himself on the titlepage, one of only eight copies on Papier de Hollande, was to provide a dowry for his daughter. The Mélanges were intended to provide extensive bibliographical detail and descriptions for the sales to follow. Techener calls Nodier's collection in the preface provided for the posthumous 1844 sale a "perle précieuse" as it contained many great rarities in many fields including a Bible printed in the Iroquois language in 1816 (lot 16).
