[OSLER, Sir WILLIAM]. Silver print photograph of Sir William Osler in his office, by F. GUTEKUNST (signed in the negative and label on mount verso). Circa 1900. 333 x 415 mm. (13¼ x 16 3/8 in.), laid down on mount; matted and framed.
Sir William Osler (1849-1919) was physician-in-chief at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore from 1889 to 1905. This photograph is likely from this period when he was also a professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University. The gentleman seated beside Osler might possibly be the German bacteriologist, Paul Ehrlich, who was at Johns Hopkins working during this period.
