THE PROPERTY OF J.Ph.E.J.M. DE NEREE TOT BABBERICH (lots 88-94)
The following seven lots have long been in the Nerée tot Babberich family, and they never have been on the market before. The family was from Normandy, whence Richard Jean de Nerée (1579-1628) came to the Dutch Republic and became chaplain to the troops of the Stadholder.
His son Jaques de Nerée married Adelheid Magdelena van Gunning in 1637. The portraits of members of the Van Gunning family (lots 91-92) must then have entered the collection.
Their son, Richard Johan (1639-1686), married Catharina van Soeteren (+ 1682). They are respectively depicted in lot 94 and 93.
The help of E. Wolleswinkel of the Iconographisch Bureau, The Hague, in the compilation of the entries is here gratefully acknowlegded.
