The Reverend T.F. Sweetman was a Roman Catholic Acting Chaplain to the Forces and recommended for an award in 1902.
Sweetman served in South Africa with the 8th Division from 10.6.1900 to 31.8.1900 and, after a spell at Kroonstad, with General Brabant's Colonial Division from 15.12.1900 to 31.1.1901. From the latter date he was sick at Elandsfontein Hospital and took leave in England from May to October 1901. In November 1901 he returned to South Africa and ministered at Dundee through until peace. The General Officer Commanding Natal, General Lyttleton, agreed with Colonel Bloomfield, Commanding Dundee, that Sweetman was 'A hardworking chaplain who has the confidence of those under his care' (War Office records refer).
