Lot Essay

Accompanied by an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirming the date of manufacture of this watch as 1943 and its subsequent sale on September 23rd, 1946. The extract records the dial as originally having been silvered.

For information on the reference 1463 see lot 92. This model exists as one of the most popular collector's timepieces in combining the solid and attractive case design with the complexity of the movement and its functions. The present example is a truly rare example combining a steel case with a black dial with both baton and Breguet numerals. Very few instances of the reference 1463 with black dial are known. The custom-made black dial on this watch lends this piece a most uncommon and attractive appearance.
