The first chronograph wristwatches by Patek Philippe date from the early 1920's and are highly important collectors items. The history of these watches is becoming increasingly unclear. Until Late 1999 it was thought that the first split-second chronograph wristwatches were made in 1927 using a 13"' second quality 19-jewel movement. This was proved to be incorrect when a split second chronograph wristwatch by Patek Philippe with a 12"' Extra Quality 23-jewel movement was sold at auction setting a new World Record for a wristwatch. In this lot it seems we have another watch which changes what was previously known about early chronograph wristwatches by Patek Philippe. Until now it has been thought that the first Patek Philippe chronograph wristwatch were produced in utilising a 2nd quality 19-jewel 13"' movement. This lot however uses a 13"' 27-jewel Extra Quality movement, once again shedding new light on the early production of these highly sought after watches.
This lot is sold with original Certificat d'Origine & de Garantie and the original fitted box still containing a later plastic glass and origional spring.
