Accompanied by Patek Philippe cardboard slipcase, leather-covered
box and an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirming the date of manufacture as 1961 and its subsequent sale on December 8th of 1975.
Production of the reference 2597 with movement caliber 12'''400 HS, for heures sautantes or jumping hours, was launched in 1958. The model followed a prototype Louis Cottier submitted to Patek Philippe a few years prior.
Patek Philippe made the reference 2597 in two versions; the first features an independently adjustable hour hand whereas the second, introduced in 1962 and seen here, includes an additional hour hand. This mechanism was patented by Patek after having also been delivered by Cottier. Such examples are extremely rare at auction and according to our research, this wristwatch represents one of only 7 known to have appeared at auction in yellow gold with the caliber 12-400 HS.
For an example of both versions of the reference 2597 see Huber & Banbery, Patek Philippe Wristwatches, p. 238.
