Accompanied by an Extract from the Patek Philippe Archives confirming the date of manufacture of this watch as 1947 and its subsequent sale on June 24th of the same year.
The inscription on the back of this watch details that the watch was a gift to Ray Arcel. Arcel (1899-1904) was one of the most respected men in the history of boxing, became the first of only two trainers inducted in to the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Arcel trained more than two thousand boxers, including a record twenty world champions. Over his career, Arcel worked with such famous fighters as: Jackie "Kid" Berg, James J. Braddock (now famed for the featuring of his life story in the movie Cinderella Man), Ezzard Charles, Peppermint Frazier, Roberto Duran, for his famed first fight against the undefeated Sugar Ray Leonard and Larry Holmes.
His fighter's tremendous successes speak to both his skills as a trainer and his compassion for the boxers whom he considered part of his ever-expanding family.
