A GROUP OF DRAWINGS BY PAULINE AUZOU (LOTS 186-201)
Pauline Desmarquet entered the studio of Jean-Baptiste Regnault some time before 1793. She exhibited at the Salon of that year a Bacchante and a Tête d'étude, probably similar to lot 197 of this sale. In late 1793 or early 1794 she married the paper merchant Charles-Marie Auzou. Pauline Auzou continued to exhibit at the Salon up to 1817 and kept a studio in which she mainly taught female students. She was awarded the First Class medal in 1806 and painted for the French State, the Société des Arts and the Duchesse de Berry. The following fifteen lots come by descent from the artist.
