PHILCO PREDICTA REPLICA TELEVISIONS
The following lots are electronically state of the art, handmade replicas of the revolutionary Philco Predicta of 1958.
With the advent of the Space Age, Philco's design department was assigned the job of developing a radical new look which would capture the public's imagination and reflect the growing fascination with modern technology. They chose to move away from the industry standard box-like television as furniture, and came up with something truly spacey. The engineering department contributed by developing wide deflection picture tubes and printed circuits, which made it possible to separate the viewing screen from the receiver. This startling design was achieved by Philco designers, Richard Whipple and Severin Jonassen. Although highly regarded for aesthetics, the sets had overreached the science, and suffered poor performance which led invariably to their demise. Here the beautiful design is resurrected now that the technology has made it viable. We offer a number of these extremely high quality sets, in excellent condition over the following lots.
