PIEDMONTESE SCHOOL, CIRCA 1740/50
A young nobleman, possibly a member of the House of Savoy, in blue velvet coat, grey waistcoat and lace cravat, pale purple cloak draped over his right shoulder, long powdered curling hair en queue, wearing the breast-star of the Royal Sardinian Order of the Most Sacred Annunciation; together with a lady, in grey dress with white underdress with collar, long black veil falling from her dark upswept hair (School of Bernard Lens, circa 1720)
ovals, 2 11/16 in. (68 mm.) high, silver-gilt frame with glazed silk reverse, and 2¾ in. (70 mm.) high, gilt-metal frame with inner and outer beaded borders (2)
