The figure's pose in this study is probably derived from that of Hera, the goddess on the left side of Renoir's two versions of Le Jugement de Paris, 1908 and 1913-1914 (Private collection, Japan and coll. Hiroshima Museum of Art, respectively). With arms raised, this pose was re-employed for Danseuse nue au tambourin, painted circa 1916, (ed. Bernheim-Jeune, L'Atelier de Renoir, no. 671), which served as the inspiration for Renoir's terracotta plaque Danseuse au Tambourin I (Haessaerts, no. 22), executed in collaboration with Louis Morel in 1918.
