Lot Essay

The minimalist lines of the present table differ from Pierre Jeanneret's other furniture creations for Chandigarh. Its shape is reminiscent of Jeanneret's earlier designs, especially the low seats produced in France and it evokes the Japanese influence in Charlotte Perriand's work.

This table is thought to be a unique piece, and was found in the Design Department of the College of Art in Chandigarh together with other works by Jeanneret.
