oil on canvas, in an interior the Shah stands with his right hand across his breast, the sword of state hanging from his left side, wearing green trousers and heavily jewelled red tunic with green sash and three miniatures of Fath 'Ali Shah, Muhammad Shah and Abbas Mirza on his chest, in tall black hat with jewelled ornaments, inscription cartouche top left reading Shah Qajar Nasr al-Din Shah al-Sultan al-Sultan al-Sultan, (some damages and repairs), on rectangular stretcher with pointed top, original leather edging

Given by Nasr al-Din Shah to the Austrian Emperor, Franz Joseph II, on his coronation (xxxx); through Beroldingen, a courtier to Franz Joseph; thence by decsent until purchased circa 1935 by the father of the vendor.
