Title vignette and 27 color illustrations. 12mo, original pale green paper boards, upper cover with inset color pictorial label, color pictorial endpapers (Linder 9 & 8 [at front] and 8 & 9 [at rear], spine defective (lacking backstrip); upper hinge cracked, some fading to ink on inscription. FIRST WELSH EDITION, published in 1924, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Potter twice on the half-title: "Christmas 1924" in very faint pencil; and in ink (partly over the pencil inscription) "For Betty Badcock from Beatrix Potter A happy New Year to you Jan 1st 1924 [i.e. 1925] Read it if you can!" [the lines beneath signature are particularly faded]. Linder, p. 436; V & A 1699.
