POTTER, BEATRIX. The Tailor of Gloucester. New York: Frederick Warne & Co., . Color frontispiece (of a dancing couple in period costume) and 26 colored illustrations. 12mo, original green paper boards, upper cover with inset color label, color pictorial endpapers (Linder 1 [used four times]). FIRST AMERICAN EDITION, with Schlueter printer's imprint on p. . Quinby 4A; not in V & A or Linder. A Very fine copy.
The first and early American editions were printed by the Schlueter Printing Firm, New York, whereas the English editions were printed by Edmund Evans. Quinby notes the American editions in her bibliography and gives the various addresses of F. Warne. However, in Quinby, the Schlueter name has been consistently mis-spelled as "Schleuter."
