The Tale of Peter Rabbit, London: Strangeways and Sons Printers [Privately Published], December 1901. 16 in 8s, coloured frontispiece and 41 line block illustrations by Beatrix Potter (one page with small stain to right corner, very occasional spotting not affecting plates or text), original pale olive-green pictorial paper boards (spine lightly rubbed, foot of spine slightly loose, faint staining to covers, inner hinges weak), plain endpapers (occasional spotting), contemporary green cloth marbled presentation case (corners slightly rubbed).
A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST PRIVATE EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, with flat spine. LIMITED TO 250 COPIES. PRESENTATION COPY, the front free endpaper inscribed: 'With best wishes for Christmas & New Year from Beatrix Potter - Dec 22nd 01.' Linder p. 420, Quinby 1.
