    POTTER, BEATRIX. The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies. London: Frederick Warne and Co, 1909. Title vignette and 27 color illustrations. 12mo, original brown paper boards, upper cover with inset color pictorial label, color pictorial endpapers (Linder 5 & 6 [at front] and 6 & 5 [at rear]), rebacked with cloth (lettered in white), corners worn; some minor marginal soiling. FIRST EDITION, early issue, with the Notice Board in the picture on p. 14, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Potter on the frontispiece blank recto: ''Bitty Roses with Love from [small ink sketch of a rabbbit seen in profile] 10.11.09.'' Beside the sketch is a small circular blue ink dot, which apparently obscures another tiny sketch of two birds(?). Quinby 16; Linder, p. 428; V & A 1659.

    Provenance

    Bitty Roses, presentation inscription from the author on the frontispiece recto (dated "10.11.09."); Bookmark (dealer's catalogue code "Sugar Plum"). This copy and another similarly inscribed copy, also with a rabbit drawing (inscribed to "Bitty Roses"), were offered as separate items in Catalogue --. The other copy is now in the collection of a prominent Potter authority and scholar.
