Original red cloth lettered in gilt on the spine [first state of binding], dustwrapper (dustwrapper marked and darkened on spine, a little chipped and torn at edges, reinforced with adhesive tape). Provenance: Ezra Pound (autograph inscription in red on front free endpaper 'return to , E Pound , Rapallo').
FIRST EDITION IN THE FIRST BINDING. FROM POUND'S LIBRARY. Gallup notes that 2,000 copies of ABC of Reading were printed; of these, the first copies bound up were issued in a binding of rough-textured red cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine (as here), and the later copies were issued in a binding of smooth red cloth lettered in black on the spine.
