One needs to be in an undisturbed state of mind where 'we travel, without fear, without sentiment' and 'witness the birth of a new image.' The relationship with a specific object, person or place is formed unconsciously, and 'it is discovered only when it manifests itself in the form of a painting.' Therefore, abstract concepts may emerge on the canvas as concrete forms and vice versa.
