2o (297 x 210mm). 36pp. Title with oval woodcut emblem of the "Provincias Unidas del Rio de la Plata 1813." (Small ink stamp of earl owner on title, last six leaves with wormhole at inner margin.) CONTEMPORARY WRAPPERS OF COLOR-PRINTED WALLPAPER (two broad bands of acorn and leaf design on a reddish brown ground), uncut, bound at a later date in half mottled calf and marbled boards, with original wrappers enclosed (spine slightly rubbed).
A thorough Constitution for the United Provinces, in eight sections, establishing rules for citizenship, spelling out the respective powers of the legislature, executive and judiciary, governing elections to public office, electoral assemblies, national militia and marine. Section VII, Chapter I is a bill of rights in 14 points, providing for due process, the right to bear arms, etc.; Chapter II states guarantees of the freedom of the press (based on a Decree of 26 October 1811). The text is signed in type at end by President Pedro Leon Gallo, with a notice that it supercedes all previous laws and statutes.
