Pyrotechnica Loyolana, Ignatian Fire-works. Or, The Fiery Jesuits Temper and Behaviour. Being an Historical Compendium of the Rise, Increase, Doctrines, and Deeds of the Jesuits ... By a Catholick-Christian. London: Printed for G.E. C.T., 1667. 4° (200 x 160mm). Engraved frontispiece, two engraved initials (lacks preliminary blank, owner's signature showing through frontispiece, title browned, frontispiece and title separated at gutter). 19th-century half roan, red edges (worn) Provenance: 'J.M.' (contemporary hand); 'C.M. Butler' (?) (pencil).
An eloquent attack on "those signal incendiaries, which pass under the usurped title of the Society of Jesus", blaming them for the Great Fire of London of 1666 and other acts of arson. The frontispiece shows the Pope fanning London's flames with a 'long bellows', and also depicts Guy Fawkes ('G. Faux') inspecting barrels of gunpowder. Wing P4318.
