Lieutenant-Colonel J.D.T. Reckitt received the first of his three Mentions in Despatches for his actions at the inconclusive Battle of Willow Grange. Reckitt was one of only six mentioned by General Hildyard in his report on the Battle dated 24.11.1899 (London Gazette 26.1.1900 refers):
'Bearer Company - Major Reckitt commanded, and did good service both at the time and in connection with the removal of the wounded.'
Reckitt served throughout the Natal Campaign and Relief of Ladysmith, including the actions of Colenso, Spion Kop and Vaal Krantz. He was further mentioned in General Buller's Despatches of 30.3.1900 and 19.6.1900 (London Gazette 8.2.1901 refers).
