Part I only [all published], small 8° (197 x 135mm). 50 hand-coloured lithographed plates, list of subscribers. (Plate 12 with closed clean tear, lower margin of last 2 plates shorter, plates nos. 18, 20 and 49 with clean marginal tears, occasional very light and even browning.) Contemporary half cloth and marbled boards (front joint cracked but firmly holding, head and tail of spine chipped, ink stain on lower cover, rubbed). Provenance: "For dear Frank from his Uncle E.K., Jan. 17, 1853" (inscription on pastedwon).
FIRST EDITION. The book was intended to be published in five parts but only part one was published. The plates depict all kinds of trade e.g. a cook, fire-dancer, housekeeper, lamplighter, medicine seller, the temple beggar, horse keeper, dog boy, and glass armlet dealer.
