Reales ordenanzas para la direccion...de la mineria de Nueva-Espana. Lima, 1785.
2o (280 x 188 mm). (Some marginal worming, occasional spotting.) Contemporary limp vellum (worn and rubbed).
FIRST LIMA EDITION OF THESE IMPORTANT CODES. Sabin calls the first edition published in Madrid, 1783, a "rare and valuable compendium of the old mining laws and mineral customs." This celebrated and comprehensive code was drawn up by the Mexican mining court in consultation with the Spanish crown, and served as the basis of the mining law of most Spanish-American countries until the late nineteenth century; it became law also in both Peru (as evidenced in this edition) and the Río de la Plata viceroyalty in 1794. Palau 251938. See Sabin 56260.
