14 cloth panels illustrating missionary life and scenery in the colonies, 8 hand-painted, 6 printed in black with colours (those stamped by either the Working Men's Educational Union or the Religious Tract Society, and numbered 3, 4, 39, 65, 44 and 474), circa 1860-80, 90 x 120cm. approx. (Some light staining, some with later related missionary material pasted on the verso.)
The various scenes were used to illustrate educational/religious talks given to institutes and schools. The hand-painted scenes include views in Jamaica and Sierra Leone (probably from photographs). Those on a print base include a fine Middle-Eastern view, New Zealand scenery and opium smokers in China. (15)
