Reference 6236 was the final version of the celebrated Datocompax model. In production between 1958 and 1962, it is easily identifiable by the larger bezel compared to its predecessors. In fact, the case of reference 6236 is now made of three elements, the bezel no longer carved from the same block as the centrepiece of the case.
The present watch however is fitted with a rather unusual dial, not featuring the typical "Oyster Chronograph" underneath the Rolex signature. Close inspection of this previously unknown layout can only lead to the conclusion that it originally left the factory with such set-up.
The model is described and illustrated in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 402 - 409.
