FIRST EDITION, AND AN IMPORTANT ASSOCIATION COPY. Tupper was a contributor and his annotations identify both his own and others contributions. Loosely inserted is W.M.Rossetti's 1p. autograph manuscript of the wording used for the outside of the upper wrapper of part 2 (with an alternative reading of 'wilt' for 'with' in the third line of the poem, and with his initials at the foot of the poem); a 3pp. manuscript (?the majority of the text for the back wrapper to part 1) in the hand of Tupper (2pp.) and W.M.Rossetti (1p.); and a 3pp. ALS from Elliot Stock, the publishers to Mrs.Tupper, July 2nd 1883, requesting permission to re-publish her husband's contributions to The Germ in a projected facsimile reprint.
