SARTORIO, Bernardo. I numi a diporto su l'Adriatico. Descrizione della regatta solenne disposta in Venezia a godimento ... di Ferdinando Terzo Prencipe di Toscana ... 1688. Venice: Andrea Poletti, .
2° (398 x 281mm). Engraved frontispiece and 14 plates by Allesandro della Via after Lodovico Lamberti and Gio. Carbonari, 2 plates folding and 12 double-page. (Slight marginal browning, small tear to the first plate, final plate with small repair.) Old calf (rebacked, endpapers replaced).
A RARE AND MAGNIFICENT FESTIVAL BOOK. The theme of the 'regatta' was a parade of classical gods at the symbolic confluence of the Arno and the Adriatic. The first of della Via's plates depicts 'una gran Macchina la Reggia ornatissima di Netuno,' a floating palace of Neptune. This is followed by 12 double-page plates, each portraying a baroque galley with a deity at the prow or stern, while the magnificent final plate unfolds to reveal a bird's eye view of the whole regatta as it approaches St. Mark's. Berlin Kat. 3052; Cicognara 1478.
