Type: 5:86R. 20th-century brown morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe for Bernard Quaritch Ltd. Provenance: Gordon H. Craine (bookplate; purchased from Quaritch in 1963; by descent).
FIRST EDITION, and one of the earliest Savonarola works to appear in print. Savonarola exhorts his listeners to pray as the most efficacious means of preserving in man two of the most important virtues: humility and charity, the first is the foundation of spiritual life, and the second is the perfection or consummation of the spirit.
