4o (204 x 165 mm). Engraved additional title (dated 1658) and 46 engraved plates (light browning, light marginal dampstaining, minor worming to first few leaves.) Contemporary vellum with overlapping edges (some soiling to upper cover).
FIRST EDITION. The appendix to Schott's work contains the first published report of Guericke's experiments with the vacuum pump. Guericke did not publish his own account until 1672. BM/STC German (17th-c.) S1246; Norman 1910.
