2° (322 x 210mm). 124 woodcuts, of which 2 are repeats and one is half-page, woodcut historiated initials, printer's device on title and final verso, typographic text diagrams. (Occasional light staining.) Early 20th-century English brown morocco, gilt turn-ins, top edge gilt (scuffed, worn at spine and corners). Provenance: Philibert de ?Pourtid (16th-century title inscription washed) -- a few other early inscriptions washed.
FIRST EDITION of N. Volkyr de Serouville's translation into French, re-using the full-page woodblocks from Wechel's first Latin edition of 1532, which in turn are dependent on Steiner's cuts in his 1529 German edition. Brunet V, 1162; Mortimer, Harvard French, 488.
