4 volumes. (89 x 62 mm). Cloth, in pictorial dust-jackets, together in a pictorial board slipcase (slight fading to spines of dust-jackets). Provenance: "Peter", a seven year old boy from Arizona who came to New York City in 1965 for leukemia treatment, and who brought these, his favourite books with him. His parents asked Sendak to autograph them for him, which he generously did (signed inscriptions and drawings by Sendak on the front endpaper of each; three each inscribed "For Peter Hello Maurice Sendak", with sketches of an alligator, a dog, and a little boy respectively; the fourth dated March '65 and inscribed "Dear Peter, Pierre, Johnny, all the alligators and the Chicken Soup - Say Hello! And Get Well Soon! With all best wishes! Your friend, Maurice Sendak."
