Lot Essay

The two paper labels to the base indicate that this piece was sent from Japan for exhibition in London, probably at the Crafts Centre of Great Britain in 1963 or Henry Rothschild's Primavera Gallery.

For a similar example see Tony Birks, Bernard Leach, Hamada & Their Circle: From the Wingfield Digby Collection, (London, 1992), no.108, p.106. For similarly glazed examples see Bernard Leach, Hamada: Potter, (London, 1976), pl.6 and 48.
