CONTEMPORARY GERMAN SILVER GILT BINDING WITH 22 MINIATURES AND 67 GARNETS, covers with pierced openwork of foliage against a ribbed gilt metal ground, an outer ribbon border, each cover set with two large miniatures mounted under glass at center surrounded by ten smaller miniatures, all of Biblical scenes, and 58 cabochon garnets, integrated continuous hinges, spine pierced en suite and set with 7 cabochon garnets, silver clasps and catches each set with a cabochon garnet, yellow silk linings (one clasp lacking catch, one glass cracked, lacks front free lining, text block loose); quarter morocco slipcase and fleece-lined chemise. Provenance: Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843, bookplate); purchased from Lucien Goldschmidt, 4 October 1963.
