In the years before he became a well-known and sought-after artist with a constant stream of commissions, Munnings was free to paint subjects of his own choosing. These early pictures show his love of the turn-of-the-century British country life. The present view is a nostalgic, private moment; a young lady and her 'beau' walking in the countryside. Executed in watercolour it shows Munnings's acute sense of observation and sensitivity to his surroundings.
We are grateful to Lorian Peralta Ramos for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
