Lot Essay

This is a design for Frederick Ashton's production of 'Marguerite and Armand', with music by Franz Liszt and costumes and scenery by Sir Cecil Beaton. The ballet was first performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden by the Royal Ballet in 1963.
The title roles were taken by Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev.
