A French version of Anthony Smith's important and detailed chart of the Chesapeake and surrounding waterways. The first edition was entitled "A New and Accurate Chart of the Bay of Chesapeake." The second edition appeared in 1777 in Thomas Jefferys' North American Pilot and this French version appeared in 1778, for the Depot General de la Marine under the direction of M. de Sartine. The chart continued to be used, with few alterations, in sea atlases until the beginning of the Nineteenth century. An inset of Herring Bay appears in the lower right.
