While Fornasetti maintained that architecture was his favorite theme, his second favorite image was the sun. Highly regarded as an artist who found beauty and inspiration wherever he looked, he was able to apply these sources of joy to a variety of flat surfaces and familiar objects thereby giving them new visual meaning and a sense of gaiety and humor. The sun is perhaps Fornasetti's most joyful image and it was so dear to him that his death announcement featured the sun in eclipse.
